How to Use a Logo Animation Video to Boost Email Open Rates

We tested one change across our entire marketing email sequence. Just an animated logo video in our Gmail profile. Open rates went up 20%. Here's how.

Can profile picture really affect open rates?

Honestly, we were skeptical too. It sounds like the kind of tip that gets passed around LinkedIn without anyone actually testing it. So we tested it. Inboxes are static by design – same layout, same icons, same everything. One thing moving stands out. That's really all there is to it. Our open rates went up and the only thing we changed was the profile picture.

What you'll need

(1) Your company logo (ideally vector, but hi-res PNG will do)
(2) A Videobolt account
(3) up to 3 minutes

Step 1: Pick a logo animation template on Videobolt

Go to Videobolt and search under Templates in the header, you will find Logo Animation. You're looking for something clean – a subtle reveal, a gentle loop, a smooth fade. The profile picture displays at 40×40 pixels in most inboxes. Complex motion won't read. Calm, looping movement will. Probably around five seconds long.

We picked a few of our best logo animation templates to get you started – browse them below and click to open directly in the editor.

Step 2: Add your logo and export

Upload your logo into the template using our editor. Customize other bits of the template to fit your brand. Hit Export, download the MP4.

Step 3: Convert to GIF with Simple Video Tools

Google accounts need a GIF, not an MP4. Go to Videobolt's Simple Video Tools to use our free MP4-to-GIF converter.

Upload your logo animation, pick FPS and resolution (even 360px should be enough for the profile image), hit Convert & Download button. Five seconds.

Step 4: Set it as your Google profile picture

(1) Go to myaccount.google.com
(2) Click your profile photo → camera icon and then Upload from Device
(3) Upload the GIF (Google will let you trim it to fit the circle)

It goes live across Gmail, Google Meet, and every shared Google doc – every touchpoint where a prospect or client sees your (brand) name.

FAQs

Does an animated profile picture actually show in Gmail inboxes?
Yes. Gmail displays GIF profile pictures with animation both on desktop and mobile.

What animation style works best for sales emails?
Short, looping, understated. A 3-5 second logo reveal that animates cleanly. The goal is to be noticed, not to distract.

Will this work if I send emails through HubSpot, Klaviyo, or another marketing platform?
Yes. The profile picture is tied to your Google account, not your sending tool. We've tested this with both HubSpot and Klaviyo – it worked on both. As long as your emails are sent from a Gmail or Google Workspace address, the animated profile picture shows up.

Does my logo animation need to be square?
No. Google lets you crop the image during upload, so you can adjust framing after the fact. Square exports look cleanest at icon size, but they're not a requirement.
