Interview with motion graphics designer LuisBranco
Luis is a young, self-taught author from Brazil, who is always seeking knowledge.
Hi guys! As you all know, we are super proud of our designers’ community that keeps growing rapidly. So far, it is a lovely bunch of 100 first-class designers and creative souls that fuel our template library with new designs on a daily basis. This time, I had a wonderful opportunity to talk with Luis Felipe Branco, a 24 yo author from São Paulo, Brazil. He created 34 templates and joined our design hub in 2020. We spoke with Luis about his career, inspiration, hobbies, and experience with Videobolt’s authors' community - especially the usability of the responsive tool, exclusively available to all our designers. Enjoy!

How did you get started in motion design?
Luis Branco
My passion for motion design started around 2011 when I was 14 years old. Back then, I started editing some football games - creating something like ‘top moments’ video mashups. It wasn’t anything professional, just a hobby. I've also always been passionate about vignettes and animation in general. I was fascinated by those movie openings. It was then, around 2015, that I went from just simple video editing to studying motion design, and moving on to After Effects. In the beginning, it was very difficult to learn because it was a totally different software from anything I had ever used, but as time went by, I tested and learned a lot. Nowadays I work practically every day with After Effects and learn more about it on a daily basis. Motion design is my passion!

What do you love the most about your work?
Luis Branco
What I love most about my work is the power of creation. There are endless possibilities for creation. Creating designs, layouts, animations - I love it. The ability to turn all of these into video templates is amazing!
Milica Popovic
What would you say is the most challenging thing about being a designer?
Luis Branco
Despite the infinite possibility of creation, difficulty in my view of being a designer is precisely the creation part. Sometimes it is very difficult to create something new and interesting. Sometimes creative blocks get in the way. Several attempts and combinations are required before a satisfactory result is achieved.

Since when have you been a part of the Videobolt authors' community and how was your experience so far?
Luis Branco
I've been part of the Videobolt author community since March 2020. My experience has been amazing ever since. The other authors and the Videobolt team are always very helpful. In addition, the tools that the Videobolt team develops for authors are incredible, they help make the creative process faster and more professional. One of the newest tools is the responsive video kit, where it is possible to create video templates in formats other than landscape, such as portrait, post, square, etc... This generates the possibility for us authors to create more videos for customers, and consequently, customers will have more video options to choose from, which is amazing for both parties! I believe that the responsive video tool created by Videobolt will be a reference in the video template industry in the future, it is a very powerful and useful tool!

You’ve created - intros, outros, music visualizers, slideshows… What would you say is your style and favorite category?
Luis Branco
I would say my style category is music visualizers. I love the creation process and how the video can react to every beat of the song. It's amazing to give customers the power to create music videos for the entire album, with the same template!

What does your everyday work process look like? :) How do you keep the work-life balance?
Luis Branco
My day-to-day work process is planning out the tasks regarding motion design and making to-do lists for the creative processes required for the creation of templates. Things I didn’t finish on the planned day - I would do on the following day. I try to stipulate a daily workload, to have time for the creation of templates, so as not to exceed the time allocated for other day-to-day tasks. When I feel tired, I usually take a breath and feel the sunlight, which helps me relax. My hobbies are playing video games and the guitar - those are activities that I do to unwind!

Where do you get your inspiration from and how do you maintain your creative edge?
Luis Branco
I get inspiration from seeing the work of other authors in the community, look for references of what other motion designers are creating, and then go create something my own way. It helps me a lot to maintain my creativity.
Milica Popovic
How do you stay up to date on the advances in the industry?
Luis Branco
What helps me keep up to date with the industry's advances is to continue analyzing the creative techniques that are being used today, and try to use those techniques in the creation of my templates. That way, I try to keep my templates looking modern.

What do you hope to achieve in your career?
Luis Branco
In my career, I seek to gain advanced knowledge regarding motion design, make this my main job, and be somehow recognized in the industry. I want to be able to wake up every day, be able to do what I love, and make my livelihood. Work in what I love and be happy!

In the crazy times we live in, is there anything you would like to share with the world?
Luis Branco
In these difficult times of a pandemic, I always seek to maintain positivity, seeking to stay close to family and people I love. Small details are what make the difference. So what I would like to convey to the world is the message that our life is too short and fleeting, so let's love those who love us!

Thanks, Luis for being a part of our awesome design community! :)
