HR & Corpo Contest Winner Interview: Harchenko
The interview with Timur, experienced motion designer from Russia, the winner of our HR & corporate themed contest.
This time we had the pleasure to talk with Timur, a 30 year old motion graphic designer from Russia who’s worked in design for 10 years already. Timur started learning design at an early age, while still in school, after which he mastered photoshop and did video editing for his friends. Gradually he evolved into motion design. He even still has his first After Effects disc.

Congratulations on winning our ‘Corporate & HR’ themed competition. You’ve sent 12 amazing video templates. How was the experience?

Thank you. It was a great experience, I love taking challenges. This is not only my victory, but also of the lady designer Sophia Nevzorova from Togliatti. She helped me with illustrations for Colorful templates. Her Instagram is sony_n_vision.

How would you compare working on template design to usual design work?
Harchenko
For me, there is no ordinary design, my thinking works in such a way that the design and the template are one whole. And I have been dealing exclusively with templates for more than 3 years. I can't compare.

Do you have any hobbies and how do you harmonize your free-lance life with your free time?
Harchenko
I don't know, is it a hobby to study the Bible, Judaism and Christianity? This is what fills me and moves me forward. Hope. This is the most basic thing in my life. And after her work, which became my service to other people.

Many would say that a good motion designer comes from being an excellent graphic designer. Would you agree?
Harchenko
Yes, I agree that a good motion designer is a good graphic designer. I would prefer good composition colors and typography with simpler animations than cool animations, but without these things.

How do you stay updated with novelties in tech and industry?
Harchenko
I don't, I'm not that interested in new products and do not follow them.

What Motion Designers do you admire and how does their work influence your work?
Harchenko
I don't look at other motion designers and work on my own style. In my experience, in the realm of templates, the buyer is looking for simple things. No bells and whistles and cool effects, what causes the wow effect among other motion designers. Stylish and simple to do is my way. I have to mention Andrew Kramer, my After Effects started with his lessons. And a lot of people I know from Russia and the CIS countries, these are Andrew's students. He raised a whole generation and we are all grateful to him. Thank you.
