SUCCESS STORY: YOUTUBE HORROR STORIES WITH RONNIE

Case Study: How Ronnie used Videobolt to create engaging visuals for his horror stories YouTube channel.

If you like horror stories, you’d love (or maybe you already do) The Dark Somnium YouTube channel!

Behind the scenes of this super creative channel is Ronnie, who has been regularly publishing videos since 2016. The stories are beautifully adapted for narration, voice acted and accompanied by music originally composed by himself - which all combined truly makes you feel you’re there.

The aesthetics of the channel is unique as well. The Dark Somnium used Videobolt music visualizers to create audio-reactive visuals that made the entire experience even more engaging and intensifying. Being a graphic designer among other things, Ronnie online fully customized the video templates available on our website to follow the channel’s visual identity.

Videobolt is a great service for anyone who wants to add interesting intros, logos, or visualization to their videos. The service helps save time by rendering the video on their servers which is much faster than it would have been if I tried something like this on my own computer.

Ronnie’s 3 top tips on starting a storytelling channel:

  • Make sure that you come up with a unique way of telling the story, find out what is missing from other channels that tell stories, and figure out what you can offer that people can’t find anywhere else.
  • If you don’t write your own stories you can find stories on creepypasta websites or the nosleep subreddit, just be sure to ask the author for permission first! If you don’t know what programs to use, you can start with free programs like Audacity to record your vocals, any mic will be good enough, I started with a 15$ mic from Walmart.
  • Have fun! Don’t worry about numbers and don't stress about everything being perfect, when you begin you will make mistakes, we all do, but over time you will hone your craft and become an amazing storyteller!

To finish on a not-so-scary note, we’ve asked Ronnie to share his favorite story, which isn’t a horror, as his channel is not strictly limited to them. “A man realizes his childhood friend has gone missing and no one can seem to remember her as if she never existed at all”. Enjoy!
